What is a CWT Alert?

Each CWT Alerts provides concise information about an event or incident that may affect travel, increase travel security risk or pose a health threat. CWT Alerts assess and succinctly summarize the respective threat or incident to help subscribers quickly identify and monitor significant and relevant situations.

What is the definition of an active alert in myCWT in relation to my itinerary?

CWT Alerts will be attached to CWT travelers trips according to this logic:

• Alert is tagged with a country included into any of the trip destinations/legs AND

• Alert is active within the start and end date of the destination/leg AND 

• If alert severity level is 1 AND coordinates range is less than <50> Km from destination city.

• If alert severity level is 2 AND coordinates range is less than <100> Km from destination city.

• If alert severity level is 3 AND coordinates range is less than <350> Km from destination city.

• If alert severity level is 4

Why does some alerts colors the icon in red in myCWT?

Alert icon will be displayed with a color taken from the highest severity alert considered using the below scale:

• If highest severity alert is of severity level 1 then Alert icon will be BLACK

• If highest severity alert is of severity level 2then Alert icon will be BLACK

• If highest severity alert is of severity level 3 then Alert icon will be RED

• If highest severity alert is of severity level 4 then Alert icon will be RED

Who is providing the content for the CWT alerts? 

The travel alert content is provided by International SOS / Control Risk the leading provider in Safety & Security solutions for the travel industry.

What are the different types of alerts and the different severity levels?

Severity 1- Notice: Routine planned events or travel disruption issues with no significant changes to medical or travel risk environment, representing a limited medical and/or travel security risk to travellers. Examples include: increase in dengue cases; seasonal flu updates; measles outbreaks; planned protests with limited risk to bystanders and minor travel disruption; ground transport strike where travellers may not have suitable alternative options; and air travel disruption issues.

Severity 2- Advisory: Major developments requiring additional readiness from travellers, events causing significant travel disruption, or incidents that result in increased medical/travel security risk. Examples include: a dengue outbreak in a country where it is not usually present; severe air pollution in an area that does not usually experience high levels of pollution; a zika outbreak in a previously unaffected location; protests that pose significant risks to bystanders or cause major travel disruption; violent crime incidents affecting foreigners; and security incidents such as bombings or attacks that pose incidental risks to mobile employees in countries where such incidents occur regularly.

Severity 3- Special Advisory: Significant unexpected development or major issue causing a substantial change to the medical or travel security risk environment, that necessitate an immediate response from travellers in the immediate vicinity of the incident, and from managers who might have staff exposed. Examples include: terrorist attacks such as bombings in major cities where travellers are present; major airports closures; transport incidents resulting in many fatalities; major health risks such as chemical spills or severe epidemics; and major natural disasters such as earthquakes, cyclones or tsunamis.

Severity 4- Evacuation Notification: Substantial developments leading to major changes in the medical or travel security risk environment that necessitate preparation for evacuation. Examples of such incidents include: major nuclear incidents; health care systems, including major hospitals, not able to function; escalating civil conflicts; and major deteriorations in security following coups attempts

The feedback provided by clicking on whether the alert content is helpful ot not is gathered and used in order to improve the alerts service itself.
